Representative Commercial Poultry and Agriculture Industry Accomplishments

 

The National Poultry Improvement Plan - Information and Marketing Kiosk.

This stand-alone interactive kiosk was delivered in to the NPIP in Conyers, GA in January of 2008, and is intended to provide a comprehensive source of information for both plan participants, and visiting foreign trading partners to the NPIP headquarters. The content covers covers everything from the history and objectives of the program, to current programs and information about how to participate in the NPIP. In addition, the kiosk includes over three hours of poultry health science training videos, and a video introduction to the NPIP by it's current director, Mr. Andrew Rhorer.

 

Laboratory Test Procedures for Avian Influenza.

This CD-ROM contains over 30 minutes of video instruction on the Agar Gell Immunodiffusion (AGID) test, the ELISA test, and proper collection and preservation of samples. In addition to the video, the CD contains other useful resources for laboratory personnel, including a computerized quiz, and an assay simulation to aid in better understanding of how the AGID test is read.  The primary audience will be National Poultry Improvement Plan (USDA) approved diagnostic laboratories across the nation. Subsequent to the original introduction, the recent threat of Avian Influenza has prompted a worldwide distribution of the CD to both government and private diagnostic laboratories. Production was done at the NPIP Avian Influenza Workshop in Athens, GA, and at the U.C. Diagnostic Laboratory in Davis, CA, and was funded by the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association

 

Stress Reduction and Proper Handling Techniques for Feedlot Cattle.

Produced for Bayer Animal Health, this CD is directed at owners, managers and employees of cattle feedlots to help improve the overall health and quality of cattle being raised for market. The cornerstone of the program is a twenty minute video in both English and Spanish which gives instruction of modern cattle handling techniques to reduce stress and Bovine Respiratory Disease in the cattle, and information on disease recognition and doctoring of cattle. The interactive CD also includes a quiz, and text documents related to the subject. The video itself is also be available on DVD and VHS video. Video production locations were in Amarillo and Brownsville, Texas.

 

Biosecurity Risk Management for Commercial Poultry Producers

A comprehensive biosecurity related resource for owners, managers and service personnel produced for the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association produced on both video and CD-ROM.  This program is currently being distributed nationally, and internationally (7,000 copies in Canada alone). This program is currently being updated and enhance through a contract with the USDA, with an anticipated distribution date of early 2008. Video production was accomplished at various locations in California, Georgia and North Carolina.

 

Biosecurity for Commercial Poultry Farm Workers (English & Spanish Versions)

Set of five videos biosecurity training produced through a cooperative effort of the CDFA and USDA directed at Hispanic commercial poultry farm workers. This was a part of the USDA's Exotic Newcastle Disease Task Force emergency response efforts during the END outbreak in California.  Produced on for delivery on CD-ROM, DVD, and VHS video. Production was done during the END outbreak in Southern California.

 

Biosecurity for Backyard Flock Owners (English & Spanish Versions)

Produced for the USDA under direction of the Exotic Newcastle Disease Task Force, this video provides basic biosecurity principles and instruction to noncommercial poultry flock owners, produced for delivery on VHS tape, CD-ROM and DVD.

 

Animal Husbandry Guidelines for U.S. Laying Flocks (English & Spanish Versions)

Video and Video CD produced for the United Egg Producers to present the latest scientific animal guidelines for commercial egg producers. Video production was done at poultry facilities in California, Georgia, Oregon and Nebraska.

 

From the Hen House to Your House

Video and interactive CD-ROM produced for the Georgia Egg Commission about commercial egg production, processing, cooking instructional segments and food safety to be used as a teaching resource for High School teachers. The video production was primarily done in California and Georgia.

Creative consultation and primary multimedia programming for a multimedia educational program to train Future Farmers of America in meat cut identification.  This complex project included tutorials in beef, pork and lamb, along with database driven practice quizzes and simulated final exam for all three species.  Consultation was accomplished both in-house, and working on-site with technical personnel at the University in Baton Rouge, La.
